Tuesday morning at 7.00 am all of the students BED
University of San Carlos did the flag ceremony and some activity that is dance
traditional modern of Philippines as the cultural day that they did it once a
month. Besides it they also announced the mayor, vice mayor, secretary and
treasure of every class each level, introduced the student officers of the
school, performance of student excel (singing), and the principal also let us
introduced ourselves as the practicumers for one month in their school.

I thought that was new knowledge of how the students in Philippines to do the flag ceremony especially how the the students form a line
and they followed ceremony with a full of attention, and how really they (the
teachers) respect the students that have achievement in academic or nonacademic
by gave the reward even though that just introduced them to all the members of
the school. I thought this also habit that can formed character of the student
to be good person, to be discipline about anything they do, to be responsible
student. Also another impression was how they keep alive their culture, it was amazing show and amazing student. They train the student to be creative and train their talent.
And after the flag ceremony, I followed Mam Esie to go
the her class. We were entered 9-SJF class, and Mam Esie is the advisory of 9-SJF
class, which is the class would be the responsibility of Mam Esie. So every after
flag ceremony there was a time for the the advisory to came to their class to
gave them advice about the class. Because this day was the first meeting with
her class, this the time for mayor of class election, also with the vice mayor,
secretary, treasure and also the P.I.O. Before the student voted the the mayor
of the class, Mam Esie let me introduced myself to students and then Mam Esie
asked the students to nominated themselves or they could nominated their friend.
So it was good interaction between the student and teacher, we could see that Mam
Esie tried to keep the communication with her students. After got some students that nominated, the student started to voted their choice. All the student actively took part of the
election, they were excited to chose their friends who was nominated as each
category. At the end, there were 5 students that chosen as the officer of the 9-SJF class which is as the mayor, vice mayor, secretary, tresure and the P.I.O.
And then, because the time was over for the class advisory Mam Esie ended the
class and let the students continue their next lesson.
The first period of this day was in 9-SJF class, the
class where we enterd before. As usual before start to study the mayor will
lead the other student to pray. And then the first activity that the teacher
gave the students pretest about the materials that they already they pass last
year to ensure that they still remember the materials because of the materials that
they will learn have relation with it. So every students quietly answer the
questions individually. The teacher gave the students time to answer it, when
I was watched them and observed them, some of them easily to answer it and most
of them confused to answer it. But I thought that could be natural thing that
they forgot the materials after school holiday. So this was the time for the
teacher to reminded the student about the last materials because it must be
important before they going to learn the main topic.

After the times over for the student answer the
questions, so the teacher ask them to exchange theirs to their other friend in
the class to check it together while they also answer it together with the
teacher. Before the teacher decided the correct answer, the teacher (mam Esie)
asked the student to answer it base of their answer on the paper by make them
pick up their hand, so that actually to make the student active and trained their
confident to bring their idea/answers to the teacher also it also can trigger
other student to be more active. When the answer of the student was wrong, so
then the teacher repair it and told the student the correct one, and explained
it to them how to get the correct answer. And after got the correct answer, the
student check their friend’s answers, did the answer wrong or right. And after
that, they gave the answer’s paper to teacher. Also at the end, the teacher
gave the student chance to asking about the difficulties that they have when
they doing the pretest. There were some students asking about their confusing
and Mam Rita explained it very well. At the end before close the meeting, Mam
Esie give an advice to the students that they have more practice/exercise to
make them more understand about the materials. After that, to close the class
they pray together.
In the second period of this day, Mam Esie invited me to
entered the 9-BJHS class. They welcoming me with friendly and Mam Esie let me
introduced myself to the students. Same like the others class, they beginning
with praying to God before study. Not far different with the 9-SJF class, Mam
Esie gave pretest to the students and asked them to answer it. While the
students answer the pretest, the teacher also look around of the students to
know how the answer it or there was student feel confused to answer it. If
there was student feel difficult and confused to answer the question then the
teacher will gave them the clues/hint and trigger them to answer it by
themselves. After the times over, with the same strategy Mam Esie asked them to
exchange their work to their other friend to check it while they also answer it
together with the teacher. The students compete each other to pick their hand
up to answer the question when Mam Esie asked them. It was nice competition to
see among the students and I was excited to see how active them. As usual also
this class close their class with praying.

This was the end of my observation for my second day. It
was adds my knowledge about the strategy of teaching and how important the role
of the teacher for the students. I think that make them enjoy the material it
will more effective to make the student easyly understood of the materials.
To end this post i'd like to share the view of beautiful sunset from my dorm.
